Frequently Asked Questions

What is Playground Theatre Project (PTP)?

  • Playground Theatre Project is a youth-driven outreach program from Actors Playground School of Theatre. For over 20 years, we have performed social issue programs at schools, youth groups, churches, and community gatherings throughout New Jersey and beyond.

  • Working with young people at the Playground, we get in-depth feedback about what’s really happening at school. We use this insight and our artistic capabilities to create fun, interactive theatre that safely and effectively explores everyday issues. Learn more about PTP here.

Who are the Mini Misfits?

  • The Mini Misfits is the younger component of PTP. Using a unique and profoundly effective peer to peer philosophy, this critically acclaimed group of socially conscious young actors have been performing an original anti-bullying play for elementary school students for nearly fourteen years. This troupe also has the distinction of being the youngest social issue theater company in the world. More on the Minis here.

What are the shows about?

  • We have two shows currently running: Mini Misfits in “The Gaggle” and “Lost Angels.”

  • Performed by our Mini Misfits, “The Gaggle” follows a student’s first day at a new school, and the conflicts that ensue. Read more about “The Gaggle” here.

  • “Lost Angels” explores numerous social issues, as 11 students are stuck in a classroom during a lockdown. Get more on “Lost Angels” here.

  • Mini Misfits is best for grades K - 6

  • “Lost Angels is appropriate for teens in grade 7 and up

Do you have a script I could preview?

  • Yes! Please contact us and we will be happy to provide you with a copy of the script(s).

What size space do we need?

  • We have performed in many different spaces including gymnasiums, stages, auditoriums and cafetoriums. Our productions are flexible and designed to be performed anywhere.

Is any technical equipment required?

  • You do not need any specific equipment for our productions. Our mic system connects directly to your school’s PA. If you do not have access to a PA plug-in, please let us know and we are happy to discuss sound system alternatives that are of no additional cost.

How long is the program?

  • Both of our programs are flexible, and we are always happy to accommodate the school’s preferred time frame.

  • Mini Misfits: The standard program is 60 minutes. The performance runs about 35 minutes. Following the play, we host an interactive talkback period with whatever remaining time is available.

  • Lost Angels: The standard program is 90 minutes. The performance is 75 minutes, followed by an interactive Q&A period with the cast. A shorter version of the play can be used to accommodate school schedules.

How much does it cost?

  • We have a per show standard rate, but we offer discounts for booking multiple shows. Please contact us so we can talk more about your school’s needs.

Does it make a difference?

  • Our productions have proven to be incredibly impactful to our audiences. After each performance, we are always open for Q&A with audience members to discuss the show’s themes and problem-solving methods. These talkback sessions are often very insightful for students and staff as they highlight what stood out to the audience. We also encourage schools to survey students on their response to the show. This is a great opportunity to collect data on students’ perception of bullying.
